i finished this book recently and thought it was incredible! i have heard mr winik speak before and the book was written in such a way that i felt like he was delivering the text in a lecture rather than reading a dry piece of history. it was wonderful and his first book, april 1865, was great as well. thanks for the review.

Once again, I urge you to take a look at some Max Boot. "War Made New" sounds like a simultaneously larger (from 1500 to 2000) and more focused (innovations in warfare) book, but the feel of the drama behind history's there as well.
